One Year Fellowships
The Medical School encourages many students to consider a fifth year and devote it exclusively to research. This Student Research Fellowship program is facilitated by charging no tuition for the extra year and by the provision of a limited number of stipends that can be paid to students. Approximately 30 - 35 students per year receive competitive one year medical student research fellowships funded by various sources through separate applications arranged by the Office of Student Research. The stipends vary from $25,836- $37,000 per year. These stipends are available on a competitive basis and students in their third year of medical school are eligible to apply. All stipends are paid directly to the student and are considered taxable income.
Students interested in one-year medical student research fellowships are encouraged to apply for more than one source of funding. Our office will discuss multiple funding choices with students so that they will have the best chance of receiving a one year medical student research fellowship. You are welcome to email osr.med@yale.edu for additional information.
Important: Medical students who are awarded fully funded one year medical student research fellowships for the 2021-2022 academic year are required to attend an orientation meeting TBD. Faculty mentors are also required to attend.
Medical students who are awarded a fully funded one year medical student research fellowship and plan to apply to the joint MD/MHS degree program should review the requirements at https://medicine.yale.edu/education/research/mhs/instructions/ Please note the dates of the coursework and plan accordingly. Important Note
If you are interested in applying to any of the one year medical student research fellowships, please contact Anne Kellett at anne.kellett@yale.edu at least 4 weeks before the institutional fellowship deadline as there may be additional forms that are required to be completed through Yale's Office of Sponsored Projects before the fellowship application can be submitted to the funding agency.
