One-Year Research Fellowships

To apply, students should complete and submit their application for a Yale Sponsored One-Year Research Fellowship to the OSR via Elentra by April 5, 2027, at 8am. Students must upload a completed Faculty Mentor Signature Page with their application. You can download the Faculty Mentor Signature Page here.

Please note: Applications for external funding may require a letter of recommendation from the student’s Head of Advisory House. Applications for external funding are prepared and reviewed by the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) pre-award team that supports the student’s mentor’s department. A minimum of 7 business days is required for the OSP to conduct an adequate review. Students are encouraged to work with their mentor and the pre-award team to finalize the application well before the submission deadline. Applications for internal funding through the OSR are managed by the OSR and do not require preparation or review by the OSP.

The application deadline for the Yale Sponsored One-Year Research Fellowship application is April 5, 2027, at 8 am. Applications must be submitted via Elentra and include all required components. Applications received after the deadline, or have missing components, will not be considered.

Students awarded a fully funded Yale Sponsored One-Year Research Fellowship must fulfill the following requirements. Failure to fulfill any of these requirements may jeopardize continued funding:

• Participate full-time in the fellowship (i.e. ~40 hours per week) from July 1st – June 30th of the academic year in which they are enrolled.
• Attend the in-person orientation meeting to be held in July 2027.
• Deliver an in-person presentation of their research at Research in Progress (RIP) seminars in both the fall and spring.
• Attend all in-person RIP seminars in the fall and spring. Only one absence per semester is permitted, and any absence must be communicated to the OSR in advance.
• Participate in monthly longitudinal “Joint One-Year Undergraduate Research Experience @ YSM” (JOURNEYS) workshops from September 2027 through June 2028. These workshops take place in person on the second Monday of each month from 10:00 – 11:00 am.
• Participate fully in YSM Student Research Day on May 2, 2028, from noon to approximately 8:00 pm. Full participation includes attending all sessions, presenting a research poster, and attending the celebratory dinner. This is a mandatory requirement.

Yale medical students interested in participating concurrently in a Yale Sponsored One-Year Research Fellowship and the joint MD-MHS degree program should carefully review the program requirements, application deadline, and dates of the required in-person coursework to ensure they can plan accordingly.

Eligibility for the joint MD-MHS degree program is limited to medical students who have been awarded a Yale Sponsored One-Year Research Fellowship.

The Office of Student Research has funds to support a limited number of students through Yale Sponsored One-Year Research Fellowships.
