At Yale School of Medicine (YSM), we believe that financial concerns should never stand between you and your future in medicine. We are proud to offer some of the most competitive financial aid packages in the country and committed to maximizing aid for every student who demonstrates need.
Over 55% of students with need receive more than $80,000 per year in scholarship funding.
Financial aid is funding designed to help make your education more affordable. At YSM, aid comes in two forms:
- Scholarships - money awarded to support your education that you never have to repay. YSM scholarships include packages that cover 100% of calculated need as well as awards that offer full tuition scholarship for four years.
- Loans - borrowed funding to cover tuition and living expenses, with repayment typically deferred until after graduation.
Your eligibility is based on calculated need which is the difference between the estimated cost of attendance and your family's expected contribution.
Who qualifies for financial aid?
YSM's need-based aid supports families across a wide range of income levels.
Starting in the fall of 2027:
- There is no expected parent contribution for families with an annual household income of $150,000 or less (with typical assets).
- Families with total incomes between $150,000 and $190,000 and typical assets will qualify to have their contributions prorated on a sliding scale.
- Even if your family earns over $190,000 annually, you may still qualify for aid based on your financial circumstances.
Students aged 30 and older are not required to submit parental information.
Many students with calculated financial need can graduate with as little as $40,000 of debt, significantly less than the 2025 national average of $223,000.
Financial aid applications are reviewed annually, ensuring your support stays aligned with your needs.
- Prospective students receive their eligibility notification right after admission.
- Continuing students receive rolling notifications beginning in mid-May.
