Biography
Sarah May is the Associate Director in the Office of Student Research (OSR) at Yale School of Medicine, where she provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the medical student research program. Since assuming this role, Sarah has taken on comprehensive responsibility for the administration and execution of all core OSR functions, including management of the research curriculum, oversight of the MD thesis processes, and coordination of the annual Student Research Day event.
Sarah also leads the administration of the office’s NIH T35 training grants, overseeing all aspects of grant management, compliance, and reporting, including the successful coordination of multiple competitive renewals. In addition, she directs student research funding programs, manages complex financial portfolios across federal and non-federal sources, and ensures alignment of student research opportunities with institutional and funding priorities.
In her role, Sarah works closely with faculty, institutional partners, and leadership across Yale School of Medicine to support student research training, ensure compliance with academic and federal requirements, and continuously improve program operations. She also leads the implementation of systems and process improvements, including the transition of OSR operations to new institutional platforms.
Prior to joining the OSR, Sarah served as Program Coordinator for the National Clinician Scholars Program from 2018 to 2023.
Sarah brings a strong background in research administration, financial management, and program operations, with a demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives and deliver results in high-demand environments.
