Biography

Marianne Casilla-Lennon, MD,is an Assistant Professor of Urology and Director of Medical Education in Urology at Yale School of Medicine. She is also the Interim Division Chief of Urology at VA Connecticut.

Dr. Lennon plays a leading role in medical education at Yale. As Director of Medical Education, she oversees the urology curriculum across the medical student experience, including preclinical education and clinical rotations, and co-leads the multidisciplinary Surgical Anatomy elective. She also developed and directs the Urology Medical Education Resident Fellowship, which engages residents in teaching and educational scholarship. A strong focus of her work is mentorship and early exposure to urology, with the goal of developing a diverse and well-prepared urology workforce.

As a comprehensive urologist, Dr. Lennon’s research interests span a broad range of clinical topics, including oncology, fertility, and voiding dysfunction, as well as medical education and workforce development. She has published original research in journals including The Journal of Urology, Gold Journal of Urology, Academic Medicine, and The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Clinically, Dr. Lennon cares for both men and women with a broad range of urologic conditions, with particular expertise in kidney stones, lower urinary tract symptoms, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and urinary tract obstruction. She performs minimally invasive, open, and office-based urologic procedures.

Dr. Lennon is committed to individualized, patient-centered care. “My goal is to ensure patients feel heard and informed, so they can be empowered to take an active role in their care,” she says. She was drawn to medicine by a desire to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives and to urology because of the breadth of treatment options it offers, from behavioral and medical therapies to procedural approaches tailored to each patient’s condition and goals.

Clinical Care

Overview

Marianne Casilla-Lennon, MD, is a general urologist. She cares for both men and women, treating such conditions as erectile dysfunction, kidney stones, overactive bladder, urinary incontinence and obstruction, overactive bladder, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and other prostatic diseases. She is skilled in both minimally invasive and open surgical techniques, as well as office-based procedures.

“I work with my patients to come up with a treatment plan specific to their condition and needs,” Dr. Casilla-Lennon says. “This individualized approach puts patients at ease because they play an active role in their care.”

Dr. Casilla-Lennon says she became a doctor because she wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. Specializing in urology provided the opportunity to help people with a diverse range of conditions, drawing upon an armamentarium of treatments. “Every day in practice is different, and we can treat people with behavioral changes, medications, and surgery when needed,” she says.

In addition to providing care to patients, Dr. Casilla-Lennon has done research in a variety of areas, including how health care affects both patients and doctors.
