  • 00:05Innovation plays a really
  • 00:06key part in our daily life.
  • 00:08Every day we're taking care of
  • 00:09patients and every day we're thinking
  • 00:11about how can I do this next
  • 00:13procedure better than the day before.
  • 00:18We do have now all this
  • 00:20technology that's there and we
  • 00:21have navigation and we have robotics
  • 00:23and we utilize all of those to make it
  • 00:25patient specific such that we are able
  • 00:27to cater to whatever the needs are of
  • 00:29the person that's coming in front of us,
  • 00:32not for the global mass.
  • 00:35So that means that you may have a
  • 00:38custom implant or a custom surgical
  • 00:40approach in which the surgery has
  • 00:43been designed specifically to
  • 00:44help you and your unique anatomy.
  • 00:49I feel like a lot of the research,
  • 00:51especially currently is the utilization
  • 00:53of new technology and kind of seeing
  • 00:56how we can use that technology not
  • 00:58for just having something cool that's
  • 01:00available in the operating room,
  • 01:02but to actually have visible
  • 01:03results in the patients.
  • 01:06The beautiful thing about robotics
  • 01:08is that we're taking a 3D model of
  • 01:11the patient and then we are taking
  • 01:13that 3D model and virtually fitting
  • 01:15the components to the patient.
  • 01:17And then when we're doing the surgery,
  • 01:19the robot is helping us replicate that model.
  • 01:23A millimeter of accuracy.
  • 01:28It really elevates the hip and
  • 01:30knee replacement into an art
  • 01:31form where a patient can have the surgery
  • 01:33and recover seamlessly to the point
  • 01:35where they're walking the same day,
  • 01:37doing the therapy the same day
  • 01:39within an hour of the surgery,
  • 01:40and in a few hours later they're
  • 01:42resting at home and sleeping
  • 01:44in their bed that same night.
  • 01:45That is the product of a decade
  • 01:47or more of dedicated research and
  • 01:48small improvements along the way
  • 01:50in terms of pain control and blood
  • 01:52loss management and technique.
  • 01:54And when we Add all those up,
  • 01:56it's just an absolute incredible
  • 01:57process to watch.
  • 01:58A patient go through it,
  • 01:59have a surgery,
  • 01:59get up and recover and make their way home.
  • 02:03You have patients that come in
  • 02:05that have never been able to walk
  • 02:07or haven't walked in several weeks
  • 02:09and after undergoing a procedure
  • 02:11they have this new found freedom.
  • 02:16The goal of innovation and the goal
  • 02:18of clinical care is straightforward.
  • 02:19It is to take care of the patient
  • 02:22and improve that patients quality
  • 02:23of life and that is the goal we all
  • 02:26strive for and we hit the mark.
  • 02:28It is absolutely rewarding and glorifying
  • 02:30to to advance our profession in the
  • 02:32right direction which we return our
  • 02:34focus to the patient in their recovery.
