Department of Dermatology Visiting Professor Lecture

"Teaching on the Fly: Medical Education in the High-Volume Ambulatory Setting"

Katherine (Katie) Brag, MD, is a fellowship-trained, complex medical dermatologist who serves as the director of cutaneous oncology and leads the Complex Medical Dermatology Clinic for the Department of Dermatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass. Brag specializes in providing high-level, individualized, and compassionate care for patients facing severe or rare skin conditions, including cutaneous lymphoma, autoimmune blistering diseases, severe psoriasis, severe atopic dermatitis, and autoimmune connective tissue diseases. Drawing on her post-residency fellowship training, she brings expertise to managing complex conditions with systemic therapies, driven by a love for her work and her patients.

Equally dedicated to academic medicine, Brag completed the prestigious Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education. She strives to empower dermatology residents and medical students to approach every patient thoughtfully and methodically to build comprehensive and safe treatment plans. She teaches at Harvard Medical School, where she lectures and serves as the dermatology co-director for the "Immunity in Defense and Disease" course. Additionally, as Associate Program Director for the Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency, Brag focuses extensively on resident education and mentorship. She particularly enjoys teaching about critical reasoning and problem solving in medicine, especially as it pertains to making difficult diagnoses or combining systemic therapies. She has received multiple teaching awards from both the residency program and Harvard Medical School recognizing her excellence as an educator.
