Child Psychiatry Fellows
Tisa Adkinson, D.O. will be taking a position as an Addiction Psychiatry fellow in the Yale Psychiatry Department, enhancing her current expertise in working with children and adolescents, with plans to enhance the training opportunities for Yale child psychiatry fellows to focus on preventing and treating substance abuse in adolescents.
Alvi Azad, D.O., M.B.A. will be taking a position as the only child and adolescent psychiatrist in Okinawa, Japan as he continues his work in the Air Force as a Major.
Jennifer Beyer, M.D. will be moving to Wisconsin to work in St. Croix Falls in a general psychiatric outpatient clinic using her expertise in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Claudia Califano, M.D. will remain in the New Haven area, setting up a private practice and continuing as a psychiatrist in the Child Study Center Trauma Section, a program in which she developed expertise through her second year of fellowship.
Julie Chilton, M.D. will remain in the New Haven area, using her skills in working with children and adolescents in school settings as a psychiatrist at the Grove School, a therapeutic boarding college preparatory school in Madison, CT, setting up a private practice, and focusing on educating future child psychiatry fellows as part of the team implementing the core didactics.
Riz Parvez, M.D. will remain in Connecticut with plans to use his skills in working with children and adolescents in a wide range of practices including setting up a private practice, being the psychiatrist for a residential program and a community clinic, as well as expanding the use of telemental health.
Paul Rao M.D. will remain in Connecticut, moving on from his fellow role at the Solnit Center North to a position as attending child and adolescent psychiatrist there, setting up a private practice, and working as a member of the outpatient medical staff at Clifford Beers.
Child Psychology Second Year Fellows
Samantha Huestis, Pediatrics Psychology Fellow, received her PhD from the Case Western Reserve University. She will be leaving us for a Fellowship at Stanford University in the Departments of Anesthesia and Behavioral Psychiatry focused on Pediatric Pain Management. She is looking forward to expanding her repertoire of skills for helping youth with pain vis-a-vis biofeedback, hypnosis, and a truly biopsychosocial, integrated medical approach to working with pediatric populations.
Marcela Torres, Early Childhood Psychology Fellow, received her PhD from The Pennsylvania State University. She will be leaving us for a position at the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect at the University of Colorado in Denver. There she will be working with a team involved in the development and dissemination of evidence-based interventions for children and families exposed to trauma.
Matthew Oransky, Trauma Psychology Fellow, received his PhD from Fordham University. He has accepted a position at the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Matthew, the first child protective agency in the world. In his new role, Matt will provide clinical care to abused and neglected children and adolescents, provide educational consultation to Child Protective Services, conduct sexual abuse prevention workshops and join a team of researchers evaluating best practice intervention and prevention efforts for the most complexly maltreated and vulnerable children in New York City.
Child Psychology First Year Fellows
Caroline Adelman has completed her predoctoral internship and will receive her PhD from the University of North Carolina. Her area of emphasis at the Child Study Center is Anxiety Disorders.
Carla Cirilli has completed her predoctoral internship and will receive her PsyD from The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her area of specialization at the Child Study Center is Pediatrics.
Angela Maupin has completed her predoctoral internship at the Child Study Center, emphasizing her work in Early Childhood, and will receive her PhD from Michigan State University.
Kelly Powell has completed her predoctoral internship and will receive her PhD from American University. Her area of emphasis at the Child Study Center is Autism.
Linda Sapanski has completed her predoctoral internship at the Child Study Center, emphasizing her work with Children and Trauma. She will receive her PhD from Adelphi University.
Solnit Integrated Psychiatry Fellows
Rebecca Hommer, M.D. has been combining her training at the Child Study Center with research on children with severe mood dysregulation who have been part of the National Institutes of Mental Health Section on Bipolar Spectrum Disorders. Following her graduation from the Solnit program she will continue her research efforts in Bethesda, MD as a postdoctoral fellow.
Tamara Vanderwal, M.D. M.Div. will take a position as a postdoctoral fellow at the Child Study Center, continuing work within the Mayes lab to understand the physiology of the central nervous system in early childhood.
Martine Solages M.D. consultation-liaison and inpatient psychiatry, mental health services in primary care settings @ children's national medical center (DC).
