For Collaborators
A Warm Welcome
Since our founding in 1972, The Hispanic Clinic has made our patients feel safe, celebrated, and at home. Our clinic features Spanish signage, beautiful paintings from Latin American artists, and flags from countries throughout Latin America adorning our office doors. Visitors are often greeted by the smell of hot coffee and arepas made fresh on site. Each winter, we invite all our patients and their families to a holiday party hosted by our staff at the Hispanic Clinic. It has become our favorite community engaging event of the year.
Clinical Services Provided
At the Hispanic Clinic, we offer a broad range of services tailored to support recovery and well-being for our patients. We provide the following recovery-oriented services: triage, outpatient therapy with both in-person and virtual options, and group therapy supporting patients who struggle with alcohol, domestic violence, bereavement, and co-occurring disorders. All clients are evaluated and treated by a multidisciplinary team that includes bilingual/bicultural psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, nurses, substance abuse counselors, and case managers. In addition, clients have access to rehabilitation, educational, and prevention programs. The clinic also helps coordinate referrals to community resources, including vocational agencies, primary health care providers and consumer initiatives. Lastly, patients who cannot afford medicines can receive medications at no cost through our internal pharmacy.
Our Clinical Approach
Patient Centered, Culturally Sensitive, Recovery Oriented
Our unique treatment approach prioritizes patient-centered care, recovery-oriented care, and culturally sensitive treatment provided in the patient’s native language. We have a bilingual interdisciplinary team dedicated to enhancing access to high quality mental health treatment for Spanish-speaking patients.
Community Partners
We collaborate with local and regional organizations to expand resources for our patients. Key partners include: Connecticut Latino Behavioral Health System (CT-LBHS), Yale Program for Recovery and Community Health (PRCH), Latino Colectivo, many New Haven Community organizations including but not limited to JUNTA – Junta for Progressive Action, local Churches, IRIS – Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services, ULA – Unidad Latina en Acción, MAAS – Multicultural Ambulatory Addiction Services, Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center, and Fair Haven Community Health Care.

Enhancing Language Access
Every single member of our team is bilingual. Fewer misunderstandings, no interpreters. This allows us to focus on connecting with our patients. Research has shown that patients who receive mental health care in their native language experience better outcomes and higher satisfaction.
Improving access to quality mental health care for Spanish-speaking patients with Limited English Proficiency is the core mission of our clinic.
Hispanic Clinic Didactics
To celebrate our value of curiosity, we host weekly didactics for the Hispanic Clinic Staff. We love to learn and talk about new ideas. In the fall, the lecture series is led by our visiting medical students in a reverse-classroom style. In the Spring, we invite experts from all over the world to speak on a wide array of topics related to immigrant mental health including Geriatric Latino mental health, Women’s mental health, LGBTQ+ care, and many others. These sessions allow our team to continually grow their expertise and stay informed on best practices in mental health care.
Current Strengths
The Hispanic Clinic is proud of our strong local/regional reputation for providing high quality care. We are leaders in immigrant mental health, we have a cohesive and dedicated group of staff and trainees, and we implement an efficient and comprehensive strategy for incorporating new referrals into our clinic. Additionally, the Hispanic Clinic is a leader in education on Hispanic Mental Health and our Hispanic Psychiatry Fellowship is nationally recognized for excellence.
Educational Opportunities
The Hispanic Clinic contains many unique educational opportunities including a psychology fellowship, Hispanic Psychiatry Fellowship, clinical site for fourth year Medical Students that apply for an away rotation through the VSLO match system, clinical site for Yale’s psychiatry residents, as well as opportunities for our medical students to join research projects related to quality improvement.
