Rachelle M. Johnson, PhD

Rachelle M. Johnson, Ph.D., is an interdisciplinary, developmental scientist who researches the contexts of reading development, including children’s learning environments and emotions toward reading. Her main specialization is reading anxiety, and more broadly, the cooccurrence of mental health and reading challenges experienced by struggling readers and dyslexic children. Dr. Johnson conducts this research using open science practices, structural equation modeling, longitudinal designs, and meta-analysis. Her has been published in journal such as Psychological Bulletin, Developmental Psychology, and Scientific Studies of Reading.

Dr. Johnson received her PhD in Developmental Psychology at Florida State University, where she an Institute of Educational Sciences Fellow with the Florida Center for Reading Research. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Yale Child Study Center on a NIMH T32 fellowship and is working on extending her research into cognitive neuroscience.
