In the latest edition of a spotlight series launched in February to feature integrated business operations (IBO) and administration staff at the Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) and Department of Psychiatry, meet YCSC Accountant Michele Badiali, who has been in her current role for three and a half years.
What is a work-related accomplishment that made you feel proud?
My biggest work-related accomplishment is working for Yale. I have been in the financial field in some capacity for most of my working life. I have always been a numbers person. When I decided to pursue a career in accounting, I knew I could do that almost anywhere; it was the place I worked that mattered. I always wanted to work for Yale University. The university, in my opinion, is a place of community and opportunity and I feel lucky that my career path led me here. I am looking forward to continuing to grow as a professional and building strong relationships with my colleagues in the IBO.
What energizes you outside of work?
Being a mom and planning events/activities for my kids and husband especially for the different holidays throughout the year. Going to concerts is my favorite "me" thing to do. I love live music and don't have a genre preference but lately it has been a lot of country. Spending time with my friends and family, reading a good book and binging a good show.
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Thoughtful, funny, and ambitious. (I polled 4 of my best girlfriends for these answers.)
What is an accomplishment you are proud of outside of work/your current job?
Completing my master's degree while being a mom and working full time. Even though I did not need it professionally at the time, I felt like it was an achievement I wanted for myself and my future.
If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
I would love to travel to Europe. Specifically, Italy, Ireland and France.
What would you like to share that might surprise your colleagues?
My family and I love horseracing (yes, the kids too). I have been to 5 different tracks and plan to visit more. I am also a huge football fan; I am super competitive in my fantasy league and plan my fall/winter weekends around the Dallas Cowboys schedule (and NY Giants, for my husband).
