Biography
Dr. Babar Khokhar is the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of Yale Medicine (YM). In that role, Dr. Khokhar oversees such areas as clinical innovation, YM regional medical directors, population health, credentialing, patient relations, and risk management. He also oversees Yale Clinical Optimization Services (YCOS), a program he founded that is dedicated to the transformation of ambulatory care focusing on value, efficiency and the patient and physician/provider experience.
Dr. Khokhar is also the Chief Ambulatory Medical Officer for Yale-New Haven Health System and YM. In that role, he partners with ambulatory leaders across the health system to support operations, develop standards and address key initiatives, such as access and care transformation.
Within the Department of Neurology, Dr. Khokhar serves as the Vice Chair for Operations and Director of the MDA-ALS Clinic. As vice chair, he oversees outpatient neurology practices within the department and has expanded ambulatory access to neurological services across the state. He leads recruitment efforts and supports strategic planning, growth and financial modeling in the department.
Dr. Khokhar graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University, majoring in neuroscience and economics. He then earned his MD and MBA in healthcare management in a combined four-year program at Tufts University. After completing his neurology residency and neuromuscular medicine fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital, he joined the Yale Department of Neurology as a faculty member. His clinical interests include motor neuron diseases such Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) as well as other neuromuscular disorders. His other interests included medical education and health care administration, focusing on optimizing the delivery of ambulatory care and improving both the patient and provider experience in such delivery models.
