IBO Mission
The mission of the IBOs is to enable YSM’s core missions of education, research, and clinical care by providing efficient, high-quality, and consistent administrative services in a customer focused manner.
The IBO structure consists of Clinical, Basic Science, and Central Administrative Units, which are essential to enabling YSM’s core missions of education, research, and clinical care. Each IBO team plays a critical role in providing efficient, high-quality, and consistent services across departments within the medical school by delivering business administrative services in four key functional areas: Faculty Affairs, Finance, Research Administration, and Staff Affairs under one integrated operation.

The vision for YSM’s IBOs is to achieve a culture of operational excellence and customer focus, thereby contributing to academic departmental success in the core missions of education, research, and clinical care.
The IBOs, under the direction of a senior director, work with department chairs, section chiefs, faculty, and staff to enhance collaboration, streamline processes, develop operational efficiencies, and optimize resources. The senior director oversees a team delivering services to each department in four functional areas:
The Clinical IBO consists of seven individual IBOs supporting the medical school’s 19 clinical departments.
Central Administrative Units IBO supports the operations and financial management of the central departments of Yale School of Medicine, from day to day transactional activity, to budgeting, forecasting and monitoring, to long range planning. Shared Services processes transactions for departments in administration, education programs and central research core facilities.
