Clerkship Information Meeting for MS2s
In preparation for the second phase of the curriculum, the Clerkship Phase, the Office of Student Affairs will be hosting an in-person Clerkship Information Meeting on Thursday, October 12th in SHM L-115.
- 4:00 - 5:00 pm | Clerkship Information Session for all second-year, MD and MD-PhD students
- 5:00 - 5:30 pm | Continuing Clerkship Information Session for all second-year, MD-PhD students
Topics of Discussion include an introduction to the integrated clerkship curriculum, clerkship preference entry process, important policies, student assessment in the clerkships, clerkship precedes, and more. Attendance of all students is expected for this meeting.

Upcoming C-OSCE for Clerkship Students
C-OSCE assessments will be starting soon - our first scheduled date is Wednesday, November 1st. Students will be excused from their clerkship/elective/subinternship on their scheduled date including afternoon activities. We are instructing the students not to work the evening prior to their UConn date and to switch with another rotating student if they are scheduled for an evening rotation.
We will be holding a UConn Orientation meeting on the evening of October 5th from 5:00 to 6:00 pm for those being assessed this November/December. Students will be excused from their clerkship/elective/subinternship to attend this important orientation meeting.
NBME Comprehensive Basic Science Self-Assessment Vouchers for MS2s
To assist students in self-assessing their knowledge readiness for the clerkship phase and to allow students to assess their understanding and assimilation of the content that they have acquired in their courses, we will be providing all MS2s a voucher to take the USMLE Comprehensive Basic Science Self-Assessment.
The Comprehensive Basic Science Self-Assessment can be used to help students determine their readiness to take USMLE Step 1. This self-assessment contains four sections of 50 multiple-choice items and provides an equated percent correct score and an estimated probability of passing USMLE Step 1. Examinees can review explanations for all items once their self-assessment is completed. The self-assessment is delivered through the MyNBMESM Examinee Portal.
MS2s will receive an email from Susan Larkin in October 2023 which will contain a personal voucher number and instructions for redeeming the voucher. MD students can use this voucher to take the exam at any time they feel it is advantageous in their preparation, within a year of receiving the voucher. However, we strongly encourage MD students to use this voucher and take the exam prior to starting the Clerkships in January 2024. Note: You will receive a voucher again in Year 3 at the end of the clerkship period to be used to study for the USMLE Step 1 Exam.
MD-PhD students are required to use this voucher and must take the exam prior to December 31, 2023. Any questions on the MD-PhD requirement should be directed to Dr. Barbara Kazmierczak.
UWorld USMLE Step 2 CK Qbank with 360-Day Access for MS2 Students Entering Clerkships in January 2024
The YSM Alumni Fund is providing the funds for the school to provide all MS2 students the UWorld USMLE Step 2 CK Qbank with 360-Day Access. In November 2023, MS2 students will receive an email to opt in for a voucher that can be used to provide access to the Step 2 CK Qbank. The voucher can be redeemed at any point within one year of receiving it and once redeemed will provide 360 days of access to the Q-Bank. Features of the UWorld Qbank package can be found at medical.uworld.com/usmle/usmle-step-2-ck.
Students should not purchase the package on their own as reimbursement will not be possible. You will receive information on the UWorld subscription in November 2023.
