Biomedical Data Science
As a society, we are now able to collect and store data at a larger scale than ever before. With new tools to transform that data into knowledge, we are making discoveries that were out of reach just a few years ago. Such extraordinary promise makes biomedical data science a field of almost universal importance in tackling the most pressing issues of our time, including urgent challenges in medicine and health care.
With our profound expertise in biomedical data science, Yale is an ideal place for this work. Our porous disciplinary boundaries allow for multidisciplinary collaborations, bringing together clinicians, statisticians, computer scientists, economists, and epidemiologists to evaluate and improve health care quality and clinical decision making.
By leveraging algorithms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, researchers are discovering new approaches for previously unsolvable issues in diagnosing and treating cancer, cardiovascular disease, viral infections, genetic diseases, and neurological disorders. Yale’s campus-wide biomedical data science initiative is poised to secure a preeminent leadership role in defining the full breadth of this new frontier.
I think this is one of the most exciting moments in the history of medicine. We’re about to have an immense increase of capability that we’ve never had before.
