The Emergency Medicine Research Growth and Experience (EMERGE) Program, also referred to as the Clinical Enroller Program, is a hands-on, service-oriented research initiative embedded in the emergency department (ED). EMERGE connects research teams with highly trained post-graduate associates (PGAs) who provide dependable, in-person support for participant screening, enrollment, and data collection––including during evenings, weekends, and other critical time windows.

Whether your team is remote, your study involves limited eligible patients, or you simply need consistent after-hours coverage, EMERGE delivers fast, flexible, high-quality research support without the delays of traditional hiring.

To support impactful emergency medicine research while equipping future healthcare and research professionals with meaningful, real-world experience in the clinical research environment.

Our Objectives:

  1. Support Emergency Department-Based Research - Provide dependable staff for screening, enrollment, and data capture.
  2. Build Research Skills and Support Professional Growth - Pair post-graduate associates with mentorship, structured teaching, and skills that prepare them for careers in medicine, public health, and research while completing an immersive, paid research role in active studies
  3. Enable Early-Stage Projects Help studies access part-time staffing to generate pilot data and strengthen grant applications.

Preferred Qualifications

We welcome applicants who meet the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree—preferably in biological sciences, public health, or a related field
  • Prior experience in clinical research or medical settings (e.g., EMT, paramedic, medical assistant) is a plus but not mandatory
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work professionally in diverse, fast-paced environments
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • A high level of professionalism, ethics, and reliability
  • Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and adaptability
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and openness to learning research tools and software
  • Flexible schedule, including availability for day, evening (3–11 PM), and weekend shifts

Collaborate with EMERGE

EMERGE partners with faculty investigators who are conducting ED-based clinical or health services research and are seeking skilled support for participant enrollment and related study activities.

In addition to providing research services, EMERGE operates as a shared resource, and faculty collaborators are expected to contribute to the educational and professional development of EMERGE Program PGAs.

What Faculty Receive:

  • Clinical enrollment support from trained PGAs
  • Assistance with data collection
  • Faculty may have the opportunity to engage PGAs in lab or team meetings for mutual learning and project updates, based on PGA availability and program priorities.

What We Ask of Faculty?

  • Provide at least one lecture per year as part of the EMERGE educational curriculum
  • Offer mentorship to PGAs working on their project (when interests align)
  • Be available for quarterly check-ins with their assigned PGA
  • Foster a respectful, professional working environment
  • Communicate directly with EMERGE leadership regarding any concerns or urgent issues
