Corneal Abrasion

Steps

**** If patient does not wear contact lenses, have a history of eye surgery, or is immunocompromised then can defer erythromycin ointment or topical antibiotics. However it is up to your discretion if you want to discharge with ointment or antibiotics.

  • Apply Topical anesthetic
  • Use Fluorescein Stain
  • Use Cobalt Blue Light on Slit Lamp
  • Discharge with artificial tears and opthamology follow up****

Causes

Causes: traumatic abrasion, HSV, wearing contact lenses at night or exposure of contact lenses to contaminated water

  • Corneal Abrasion
  • Corneal Ulcer
  • Herpes Simplex Keratitis
