Academic career development in emergency medicine encompasses intentional, incremental, and sustained change and growth throughout the faculty member’s career. This growth is measureable and manifests in the development of applied and intellectual clinical, teaching, and scholarship capacity that is successful in moving the field of emergency medicine forward in innovation and knowledge.

Promotion metrics and timeline

The University has issued new guidelines and metrics for promotion in each track (available under resources). These are updated regularly and best viewed at the OAPD website. The appointment and promotion process starts with the faculty member. Our department has further developed internal guidelines that can be found here.
