Afranie-Sakyi Receives ASH Minority Fellow Award
Jennifer Afranie-Sakyi, MD, fellow in the Medical Oncology-Hematology Fellowship Program, has been selected by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) as one of nine outstanding fellows receiving the 2024 ASH Minority Hematology Fellow Award (MHFA). This award encourages early-career researchers from historically underrepresented groups in the United States and Canada to pursue careers in academic hematology.
Burtness Earns an AAO-HNS Presidential Citation
Barbara Burtness, MD, Anthony N. Brady Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology), has been awarded an American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) Presidential Citation in recognition of her contributions to the field of head and neck surgery. Burtness is the founding director of the Yale Head and Neck Cancer Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE).
Jain Wins an ATS Emerging Career Award
Snigdha Jain, MD, MHS, assistant professor of medicine (pulmonary, critical care & sleep medicine), has won the American Thoracic Society (ATS) Assembly on Behavioral Science and Health Services Research Emerging Career Award. The honor is given to an early career individual with demonstrated potential to make outstanding scientific and scholarly contributions to lung diseases, critical illness, or sleep disorders. Jain's research focuses on improving the recovery of older adults hospitalized with advanced serious and critical illnesses.
Konnikova Wins the ASRI's Carolyn Coulam Award
Liza Konnikova, MD, PhD, associate professor of immunobiology and of pediatrics (neonatal-perinatal medicine), was named the 2024 Carolyn Coulam Awardee by the American Society for Reproductive Immunology (ASRI). The annual award was established in 2021 for outstanding female physician-scientists in the field of reproductive immunology.
Leeds Receives an AVAS Faculty Research Award
Ira Leeds, MD, assistant professor of surgery (colon and rectal) and of biomedical informatics & data science, has received the Association of VA Surgeons (AVAS) Faculty Research Award to study the relationship between housing instability and surgical outcomes using artificial intelligence (AI) methods. The study is titled “Assessing the impact of housing instability among veterans on complications of major surgery."
McNiff Receives Founders' Award From the ASDP
