Dr. von Ash is an Assistant Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Center for Health Promotion and Health Equity at the Brown University School of Public Health. Dr. von Ash originally joined Brown as a Presidential Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow in 2018 after obtaining an ScD in Social and Behavioral Sciences and Public Health Nutrition from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. She also has a BA in Psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MPH from the Yale School of Public Health. Her research is centered on lifestyle behaviors associated with obesity prevention and the contextual factors influencing them. The goal of her research program is to reduce obesity related disparities among racial/ethnic minority and low-income families. Much of her work targets parenting practices to improve child health behaviors, with recent work also targeting parents' own health behaviors.
