What does it mean to publish 'open access'? (Online)

Registration is required. Click here to register.

‘Open access’ (OA) means that your research is published or shared in a way that makes it free to read by anyone (anyone with a computer and internet access, that is). Open science is a movement where researchers in the health sciences and beyond strive to swiftly share research findings with the masses, rather than leaving commercial publishers to be the gatekeepers of information.

Join librarian Kayla Del Biondo, to learn about open access terminology, web tools that can help you find information about OA journals you might submit a manuscript to, along with policy changes from the Office of Science and Technology Policy of the U.S. Government that will make government-funded research immediately accessible to all Americans in the near future. Optional: check out the 'What's New in Open Access?' webpage on the Medical Library website as a primer.
