Clinical Care

Overview

Michael Cohenuram, MD, is a medical oncologist for Smilow Cancer Hospital and the Norma Pfriem Breast Center in Bridgeport. He treats malignancies, and his primary focus is on lung cancer, breast cancer, and lymphoma.

While he says it sounds like a cliché, Dr. Cohenuram became an oncologist because he really wanted to help people. “Oncology drew me in as it offered the opportunity to be there for people during an especially frightening and challenging time,” he says. “It is incredibly rewarding to offer new therapies, and see people feel better and share important life moments with the—be it the birth of a grandchild or celebrating an anniversary or taking a long dreamed-about vacation.”

Dr. Cohenuram makes sure patients undergo appropriate molecular and genetic testing for their cancer both to risk-stratify them and to identify those who can best be treated with targeted therapy or immune therapy. He participates in multiple clinical trials so that he can offer patients a wide array of options.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Cohenuram participates in disease-affiliated research teams in thoracic oncology breast cancer at Yale. He has been included on Connecticut Magazine’s “Top Doc” list for several years.
