Biography
Dr. Liu is an expert in viral hepatitis, liver cancer immunotherapy, graft-versus-host disease, and cancer epigenetics. He currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Pathology and Chief of Pathology at Yale New Haven Hospital. He is also Anthony N. Brady Professor of Pathology.
After obtaining his medical degree at Tong Liao Medical College and completing his postgraduate training at Peking Union Medical College in China, Dr. Liu received his PhD in pathology from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his residency in anatomical and clinical pathology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, followed by an oncological pathology fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital. Additionally, he underwent postdoctoral training at Scripps Clinic.
Dr. Liu joined the faculty at the University of Florida's Department of Pathology, Immunology, and Laboratory Medicine, where he advanced to the positions of endowed professor and vice chair. In 2015, he was appointed as the joint chair of the Department of Pathology, Immunology, and Laboratory Medicine at New Jersey Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers University. He was recruited to Yale in 2020.
