Conference to Explore Effect of Early Childhood Development on World Peace
In partnership with UNICEF and Queens University Belfast, the Early Childhood Peace Consortium (ECPC) at the Yale Child Study Center will host an open house conference at the Omni Hotel in New Haven this Thursday, Nov. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The organizing question for the event will be: “Can early childhood development advance ‘The Culture of Peace?’”

Youth as Agents of Peace: Report Features Yale Faculty in Global Workshop to Invest in Youth for a More Peaceful World
Yale faculty played leading roles at the March 2016 "Forum on Investing in Young Children Globally", held in Amman, Jordan. The forum was an outcome of the partnership with UNICEF and the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID). Set against the worst human refugee crisis since World War II, the workshop aimed to explore how investment in young children could lead to more peaceful societies.

Pia Rebello Britto, PhD, UNICEF Chief of Early Childhood Development and Assistant Professor Adjunct in the Yale Child Study Center, is one of a team of leading global researchers and specialists, including the 2000 Nobel Prize winner for Economics, James Heckman, who were interviewed and featured in the new documentary “The Beginning of Life”. The groundbreaking film aims to raise awareness on the importance of investing in the early years of life and how scientific evidence supports the developmental well-being of young children, which defines both the present and future of mankind.

A historic moment for early childhood development
At the Seventieth Session of the United Nations General Assembly, currently underway, leaders from across the world have adopted a new set of global development goals that will establish the Development Agenda for United Nations Members States through 2030. To achieve the goals, access to quality early childhood development is recognized as essential for not just human development, but also sustainable development. The week marks a unique moment in history, not only did Pope Francis open the UN Sustainable Development Summit during his first papal visit to the United States but for the first time in history, early childhood development is included in the global development agenda.
