Yeisid Gozzo, MD, has been named medical director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, York St. campus effective July 1, 2021. Dr. Gozzo is currently the medical director of the NICU and the chair of Pediatrics at Waterbury Hospital. In addition, she has served as an attending neonatologist at the York St. NICU since 2009, and director of transport for Yale Neonatology since 2013.
Dr. Gozzo received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from George Mason University, and her MD from Eastern Virginia Medical School. She completed residency in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia, and a neonatology fellowship here at Yale. Prior to her medical career she served in the United States Marine Corps. Over many years, Dr. Gozzo has had a track record of being a gifted and dedicated clinician, an outstanding teacher, a reliable colleague, and capable and respected leader.
In this new role Dr. Gozzo replaces Matthew Bizzarro, MD, who will become the vice chair for clinical affairs for the Department of Pediatrics on January 1, 2021. Dr. Bizzarro leaves the medical director role after a decade of outstanding leadership and will continue as the systems medical director for our network of NICUs, and as an attending physician in the York St. NICU. To ensure a smooth transition of leadership at Waterbury Hospital, Dr. Gozzo will remain in her position there until she begins her new role at York St. on July 1, 2021. Steve Peterec, MD, associate medical director of the NICU at York St., has kindly agreed to serve as interim medical director at York St. upon Dr. Bizzarro’s departure in January, until Dr. Gozzo becomes our new medical director in July.
