December 12, 2024

Lawrence + Memorial Hospital (L+M) has officially become a key location within the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) to provide specialized breast surgery, marking a significant step in expanding access to expert care.

Under the leadership of Section Chief Rachel Greenup, MD, Yale Medicine’s comprehensive breast surgery program now serves patients across the greater Greenwich, Bridgeport, New Haven, and New London regions, enhancing its reach and impact.

Ellie Proussalouglou, MD, successfully performed L+M’s inaugural breast surgery on Nov. 6, 2024, symbolizing a new era of patient-centered care at the hospital. Plans are already in motion to integrate cutting-edge technologies and seek accreditation through the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. This initiative underscores a commitment to delivering multidisciplinary care that combines advanced surgical techniques, including oncoplastic reconstruction, with holistic support for patients.

“This expansion is a testament to the dedication of our faculty, nurses, clinical staff, and administrators, as well as the unwavering support of department and system leadership,” said Division Chief of Surgical Oncology, Kiran Turaga, MD, MPH.

“It takes a village, and we look forward to watching this program grow from strength to strength.”
