Sherman M. Weissman, MD, Sterling Professor of Genetics, was honored with the Yale Cancer Center Lifetime Achievement Award at Yale Cancer Center's annual Conclave. Dr. Daniel DiMaio presented the award to Dr. Weissman. Dr. Weissman's career has focused on DNA and RNA sequencing and in 1977 he sequenced the first complete animal virus, paving the way for future sequencing work and mentoring many throughout his career, including the current Director of the NIH, Francis Collins, MD, PhD. He is the former program director for Yale Cancer Center's Functional Genomics Research Program, and later the Gene Regulation Research Program.
