Schnakenberg Martin Honored With Psychologists in Public Service Early Career Achievement Award

October 07, 2024

Ashley Schnakenberg Martin, PhD, assistant professor of psychiatry, has been awarded the 2024 American Psychological Association Division 18 Psychologists in Public Service Early Career Achievement Award.

The award recognizes an exemplary commitment to public service psychology with a focus on underserved populations. Recipients are individuals who have made outstanding contributions to public service psychology through research, teaching, program development, and/or clinical practice and who are in the early stages of their career (within the first 10 years of graduation).

Schnakenberg Martin is also a Research Psychologist at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System (VACHS) in West Haven and director of the VACHS Early Psychosis Intervention Coordination (EPIC) Program. She has an extensive background in Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy (MERIT).

Schnakenberg Martin’s research seeks to understand the relationship between substance use, such as cannabis, and the development of psychosis. To study this complex relationship, she uses a multimodal approach including psychophysiology (e.g., simultaneous MEG/EEG), assessments of metacognition and neurocognition, as well as pharmacological intervention studies.
