Screening continues to play a vital role in the early detection of several common types of cancer, and yet screening guidelines are often the subject of discussion and even debate. This August 2013, in the NYU Cancer Institute summer mini-lecture series, Drs. Jiyon Lee, Andrew Rosenkrantz, and Derek Mason will cover the topics of breast, prostate, and lung cancer. The presentations are designed to help you better visualize and understand the diseases, the screening debate, the important radiologic screening tests, and which tests are appropriate for you.
For breast imaging, current guidelines for mammography, ultrasound, and MRI will be discussed with clarification of the recommendations for the 40-49 year age group. In the talk called "Male Parts," the increasing role of MRI for prostate tumor detection and guidance for biopsy will be emphasized. We will also explain why screening is not recommended for testicular cancer. In the lung presentation, risk factors, current screening recommendations and benefits of chest CT screening will be explained. This talk will also inform us about link between smoked and chewing tobacco to other non-lung cancers.
Question and answer time will follow the formal presentations.
