Announcing two global health courses for the Fall semester:

  • YSM: Topics in Global Medicine and Health starting Tuesday, September 14th! These weekly sessions are held on Tuesdays from 6:30-8pm throughout the Fall semester – please see the attached document for the schedule of talks, the majority of which will take place via Zoom. To sign up for the course, please register using this link by Monday, September 13th. We will be advertising the talks each week (see below for the first session); feel free to email the course director, Dr. Jeremy Schwartz (jeremy.schwartz@yale.edu) with any questions.
  • YSPH: Global Health Seminar - These weekly sessions are held on Thursdays from 12-1pm throughout the Fall semester; please see the attached document for the tentative schedule of talks. The sessions will be held in-person and simultaneously broadcast on Zoom (they may switch to being Zoom-based later in the semester). We will be advertising the talks each week (see below for the first session), so watch this space for more details about the seminar platform.

  • With respect to last week’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to not block Texas Senate Bill 8 – please read this summary from the New York Times which reviews the nuances of this decision, as well as the potential impact on patients and abortion providers in Texas.   • Read the attached informative NEJM perspective on the need the leverage existing technology to better coordinate health-related disaster response: Data in Crisis – Rethinking Disaster Preparedness in the United States.
  • Abstract submissions are open for the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) 2022 Conference, "Healthy People, Healthy Planet, Social Justice" on April 1-3, 2022. The Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) invites all persons wishing to report original research, innovative projects or novel programs related to global health to submit abstracts to be considered for presentation. All abstract presenters MUST register and pay the registration fee to have an accepted abstract included at the conference. Only one abstract per submitter/presenter will be accepted.   • Thursday, September 9th @ 2-3pm: Yale Program in Addiction Medicine presents the 5th Annual Schottenfeld Lecture/Addiction Medicine Grand Rounds, “Canary in the Coal Mine: A Forgotten Rural Town, A Hidden Epidemic, and a Lone Doctor Battling for the Life, Health, and Soul of the People,” featuring William Cooke, MD (Family Medicine Specialist, Foundations Family Medicine, Austin, IN). In 2015, the CDC reported on a community outbreak of over 200 cases of HIV infection among people who inject drugs in Scott County, IN; Dr. Cooke is the Family Physician in Scott County who transformed his primary care practice to integrate treatment for opioid use disorder, HCV, and HIV, to serve the needs of his community.
