The Department of Pediatrics and Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital are pleased to announce Brian J. Feldman MD, PhD, has been named section chief of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, effective January 1, 2025.
Feldman received both his MD and PhD from Stanford University before completing residency at Harvard University/ Boston Children's Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Feldman went on to launch his independent research laboratory at Stanford University before moving to UCSF in 2018 to become the inaugural Walter L. Miller Endowed Chair and Distinguished Professorship in Pediatric Endocrinology. He is certified from the American Board of Pediatrics in Endocrinology and General Pediatrics.
His current work broadly concerns the role of steroid hormones in determining cell fate, initially focusing on glucocorticoid-induced circadian alterations in carbohydrate metabolism, and more recently on the genesis of brown fat. His work has direct bearing on obesity, Type 2 diabetes and the determination of cell fate, and identified novel druggable targets.
Often recognized for his expertise in endocrinology and diabetes, Feldman has received numerous awards including the Clinical Scholars Award from the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the Young Investigator Award from the Society for Pediatric Research, the Early Investigator Award from the Endocrine Society and the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award. He's also an elected member of The American Association for Clinical Investigation (ASCI).
As section chief, Feldman will lead faculty members in our mission of delivering the highest quality care to patients and their families at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and will be responsible for sustaining and expanding robust programs in research, education and quality improvement.
