New Haven, Conn. — BJ’s Charitable Foundation recently announced a grant of $34,950 to Yale Cancer Center for breast cancer research and treatment. This award is based on the successful program sponsored by BJ’s Wholesale Club in October 2010. “Pink Ribbon” merchandise was sold in its stores throughout fifteen states. Every product marked with the BJ’s Charitable Foundation Pink Ribbon Logo generated donations that were divided among National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers along the East Coast, including Yale Cancer Center.
“As Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital continue to provide the best clinical care for breast cancer patients and work towards discovering new personalized therapies that can potentially change the landscape for these patients, the support of BJ’s Wholesale Club and its BJ's Charitable Foundation is absolutely critical,” said Anees B. Chagpar, MD, director of the Yale Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital. “It is partnerships like this that allow us to move the field of breast cancer research and treatment forward, and we are truly grateful for BJ's continued support.”
To kick off the “Pink Ribbon” program last October, a “Pink Picnic” was hosted by the Wallingford BJ’s Club store. This festive and informative event was open to the public and featured special guests including Dr. Chagpar, breast cancer survivor Jen Reynolds and WTNH health correspondent and host of Connecticut Styles Joceyln Maminta.
