Overview
Michael Grant, MD, is a medical oncologist and hematologist who cares for patients affected by cancer and other hematologic conditions, focusing on thoracic and genitourinary malignancies.
“I was inspired to become a doctor because I like people,” Dr. Grant says. “It is a unique privilege to be able to help people at a potentially vulnerable time, when they are facing challenges they may have never faced before. Medical oncology and hematology are two disciplines in which forming interpersonal relationships and building trust are vital.”
The field of oncology is advancing constantly, making it crucial for physicians to keep their practice up to standard, Dr. Grant says, and this has helped shaped his own approach. “I am passionate about personalized care, leveraging molecular features of a patient's cancer to choose the best treatment for that individual. This involves comprehensively testing for all available ‘biomarkers’ so that each treatment decision is maximally informed. In order to fulfill this commitment, I conduct research, build connections with other experts, and work diligently keep up with the latest advances in the field.”
An assistant professor of medical oncology at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Grant’s research interests include targeted and immunotherapy approaches to the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer.
