The American Physician Scientists Association (APSA) will be discussing the impact of COVID-19 on physician scientist training/careers based on results from a national survey and hear from national thought leaders who support physician scientist training and careers: Discussions will include what funding agencies/foundations can do/policies that are needed to help retain physician-scientists through these challenging times of the pandemic.
Session 2:
"COVID-19 and the importance of physician-scientists in addressing current and future pandemics"
Time: 2:30-3:30 PM EST
Moderator: Jennifer M. Kwan MD, PhD
CDC director, Rochelle Walensky MD, MPH, will discuss her journey and research as a physician scientist on the road to the CDC, challenges she overcame and why she thinks physician-scientists are important in translational science/addressing current and future pandemics. She will also discuss what the CDC is doing to support physician-scientists and what she thinks we can do as a country to retain physician-scientists.
