Biography
Dr. Quagliarello received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and his M.D. from Washington University in St. Louis prior to training as an intern, resident and Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at Yale. After completing a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at University of Virginia, he returned to Yale where he is currently Professor of Medicine, Clinical Chief of Infectious Diseases, and Vice Chair for Education and Academic Affairs. During his time on the Yale faculty, Dr. Quagliarello has served as an educational leader in directing the Internal Medicine Clerkship, the Yale Infectious Diseases Fellowship program, and he created and directs the Department of Medicine Research in Residency Program. He has complimented his clinical and educational work with his expertise as a nationally recognized investigator in the pathophysiology and management of meningitis, and the prognostic classification and management of endocarditis. For the past several years, his scholarship has focused on infections among older adults as an NIH R01 funded principal investigator and a recipient of an NIH K07 Academic Leadership Award to mentor trainees at the postdoctoral and junior faculty level to develop interdisciplinary research at the interface of Infectious Diseases and Geriatrics. Dr. Quagliarello has been an award winning educator having received the Yale Internal Medicine Teacher of the Year award (twice), the Alice Bohmfalk Teaching Prize and the Leah Lowenstein Award from Yale School of Medicine, the Laureate Award from the American College of Physicians (CT Chapter) and the Clinical Teacher Award at the national meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
