This is the third CTSA renewal for Yale, which was the only site in New England to receive funding when the program began in 2006.

Ruslan Medzhitov, PhD, is looking to conceptual models—such as systems theory, control theory, adaptation, and trade-offs—from fields like physics, economics, math, and evolutionary biology and applying them to broad questions about human health.

Before COVID-19, some Yale researchers had worked for years in other vaccine development efforts focused on conquering some the world’s most malicious and deadly diseases. Those efforts continue on trajectories that may be reshaped by knowledge gained from the COVID-19 experience.

From mouse models, to pluripotent stem cell lines, to pioneering the construction and use of organoids, Flora Vaccarino has been at the forefront of brain research since joining the Yale School of Medicine faculty more than 25 years ago.

The center will have an ambitious goal: to produce better diagnoses, treatments, and ultimately cures for these diseases. It will also work toward vaccine development.

Seventeen years after it began, in 2005, publication of Medicine@Yale is coming to an end with this issue.

In his new role, Winer is working to promote paradigm-changing dis- covery and to build an unparalleled clinical program that offers seamless, multidisciplinary care and clinical trials to all patients, eliminating dis- parities in access, care, and outcomes.

To have the juxtaposition of being at an institution with such a rich history, but one that can, and wants to, move forward is very special, she says.

Isaac Y. Kim, MD, PhD, MBA, was appointed chair of the Department of Urology at Yale School of Medicine (YSM) and chief of Urology at Yale New Haven Hospital.

McGovern will participate actively in the senior leadership group of the medical school’s academic health system and play a key role in setting and realizing strategic goals. As deputy dean for clinical affairs, she will serve as the physician leader who represents the clinical mission of the School of Medicine in all venues.
