‘Dr. Ruth’ to speak at annual Department of Psychiatry symposium

March 14, 2012

Ruth Westheimer — the psychosexual therapist more commonly known as “Dr. Ruth” — will be the featured speaker and awardee at “Neuroscience 2012,” the Yale Department of Psychiatry’s annual symposium showcasing advances in the basic and clinical sciences of the brain.

This year’s theme is "Stress, Recovery, and Wellness." In addition to a lecture and Q&A with "Dr. Ruth," the event will include talks on stress, addiction, and chronic pain by faculty from Yale's psychiatry department. The event will take place 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, in Harkess Auditorium, Sterling Hall of Medicine, 333 Cedar St.

The symposium is aimed at mental health consumers, their families, and mental health professionals. Presentations are non-technical in nature and geared toward the general public. The program format is designed to allow for dialogue between the audience, the presenters, and clinical experts. There will be ample time for questions from the audience.

The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is requested. Click here to register online.

“Neuroscience 2012” is presented by Yale's Department of Psychiatry, the Connecticut Mental Health Center, and the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, in association with the Connecticut Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Questions about Registration for Neuroscience 2012 can be addressed to Georgia Miller, conference organizer, at georgia.miller@yale.edu or 203-974-7723.
