As you may or may not know, the ODEIM working groups are busy meeting, planning, and strategizing.
At the last DEI committee meeting, the newest DEI working group, Education & Scholarship, was introduced by Isabel Bazan, MD. Bazan will lead the group with the goal of increasing DEI scholarship within the department by taking a quantitative research approach with evidenced based strategies.
The working groups are dedicated to developing different areas of DEI for the department, and meeting monthly. And we look to our faculty and staff for their knowledge, expertise, and perspective in working together as a team to further the goals of cultivating an inclusive, collaborative, and professional culture.

We were also delighted to have a special guest join us from YSM’s Human Resources to speak to the group about the Connecticut laws related to salary range disclosure and equal pay for comparable roles.
The law speaks to fair wages and compensation across all jobs and roles within the department and across an institution. The amended law addresses pay differences between men and women for “comparable” work, as opposed to “equal” and requires employers to inform job applicants and employees of the “wage range” for a position.

For this month’s “Voices of DEI” we highlight Elizabeth Prsic, MD. Prsic is on the DEI committee because she believes her voice and contributions matter. Personally, to Prsic, DEI is “about raising all of us up to contribute at our highest level to benefit others, whether it be patient care, Yale University, our homes, our communities, our world.
