Biography

Dr. Martins is a board-certified addiction psychiatrist based clinically at the Cornell Scott-Hill Health Recovery and Wellness Center where he is working to help develop community-based models for the prevention and maintenance of substance use disorders. Dr. Martins's research interests include working in both the Bassir Nia Lab, run by Anahita Bassir Nia, MD, to study the therapeutic potential of dimethyltryptamine (DMT) for alcohol use disorder, and the ENACT Lab, run by Ben Kelmendi, MD, to study the therapeutic effect of psilocybin on OCD. His research applies neuroimaging and machine learning to brain scans pre and post psychedelic administration to better understand how neurophysiological changes induced by these substances relate to therapeutic potential. Dr. Martins is additionally studying how psychedelics can be developed in an equitable manner, so that as they become available to the general public, they will be accessible and affordable for all people. He is involved in both science and mental health advocacy and have experience advocating at both the local and national level through organizations like the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Society for Neuroscience, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
