Marcus Bosenberg, MD, PhD, Anthony N. Brady Professor of Dermatology, Pathology, and Immunobiology, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Melanoma Research at its annual Congress on Oct. 27 in Amsterdam. The award is the society’s highest honor and was given in recognition of his substantial contributions to melanoma research. Bosenberg, who studies the factors that regulate anti-cancer immune responses, is co-leader of the Cancer Immunology Program of Yale Cancer Center, director of the Yale Center for Immuno-Oncology, contact principal investigator of the Yale SPORE in Skin Cancer, and director of the Center for Precision Cancer Modeling.

Pietro De Camilli, MD, John Klingenstein Professor of Neuroscience and professor of cell biology, was presented the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation during a ceremony at the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C. The award acknowledges outstanding individuals of Italian origin who have contributed to research, leadership, and mentorship in any field. De Camilli, who studies the cell biology of neuronal synapses, is also an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and director of Yale’s Program in Cellular Neuroscience, Neurodegeneration, and Repair.

Meir Kryger, MD, professor emeritus of medicine (pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine), was presented the Presidential Gold Medal from the Royal Society of Medicine in the United Kingdom for his distinguished contributions to the practice of sleep medicine. Kryger was the first to diagnose and report obstructive sleep apnea in North America and established the first clinical laboratory studying patients with sleep breathing problems in Canada. He is the chief editor of the most widely used textbook in sleep medicine, The Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine, currently in its 7th edition.

Adam Naples, PhD, assistant professor in the Yale Child Study Center, was awarded a Research Impact Award from the Misophonia Research Fund, the world’s largest philanthropic portfolio dedicated solely to research on the condition, which is characterized by an intense aversion to specific sounds. Naples will investigate how attention and arousal interact during trigger sounds to inform better diagnostic and treatment approaches.

Hospital resident Charalampia Koutsioumpa, MD, PhD, was awarded a 2025 American Neuromuscular Foundation President's Research Initiative Award and the Resident Research Award for her abstract “Distinguishing Features of Immune-Mediated Neuropathy Subtypes Utilizing Machine Learning.” The award was presented at the 2025 American Academy of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine meeting in San Francisco.

Amber W. Childs, PhD (left), and Margaret Cartiera, PhD, were among the women honored at the 20th Annual Women of Innovation Awards, hosted by the Connecticut Technology Council. Childs, associate professor of psychiatry, was cited in the category Entrepreneurial Innovation and Leadership as the founder of M-Select, a comprehensive digital mental health solution for youth. Cartiera, associate research scientist, was honored in the category Academic Innovation and Leadership–Post-Secondary for her work as innovation director at the Yale Center for Biomedical Innovation and Technology, venture advisor for the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking, and innovation director at the Yale New Haven Hospital Center for Healthcare Innovation.

Tianying Zhai, a postgraduate associate in the laboratory of Hong-Bo Zhao, MD, PhD, in the Department of Surgery, received a travel award from the Association for Research in Otolaryngology to attend the annual meeting in Puerto Rico. She also has been selected as a co-chair of the podium on hyperacusis, a rare hearing disorder, and will give an oral presentation at the meeting.

Jessica Wilen, PhD, director of professional standards in the Dean’s Office of Yale School of Medicine, has been elected to serve on the Madison Board of Education. Wilen is also an assistant professor at the Yale Child Study Center, where she manages the Viola W. Bernard Fund for Innovation in Mental Health Care, focused on promoting health equity and access for vulnerable children and their families.
