Darin A. Latimore, MD, was selected to receive this year’s Association of American Medical Colleges Exemplary Leadership Award from the Group on Collaboration, Engagement, and Community. Latimore is deputy dean for collaborative excellence and associate professor of general internal medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He was recognized for his steadfast commitment, vision, and creation of initiatives that successfully foster inclusive excellence in academic medicine.

Yajaira Suárez, PhD, deputy chair and Anthony N. Brady Professor of Comparative Medicine, has won the Judah Folkman Award in Vascular Biology from the North American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO). Suárez received the award—which recognizes outstanding contributions from vascular biologists at the mid-career stage—at NAVBO’s annual meeting, where she also presented the Folkman Award Lecture.

Fuad Abujarad, PhD, associate professor of emergency medicine, was recognized as the 2025 Outstanding Partner at the annual meeting of the Area Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut (AOASCC). The award honors his work using digital health to empower older adults. AOASCC advocates for older adults to remain as independent and engaged as possible within their communities through advocacy, information, and services.

Thomas Lardaro, MD, MPH, associate professor of emergency medicine and section chief of EMS in the Department of Emergency Medicine, has been named a National Association of EMS Physicians Fellow of the Academy of Emergency Medical Services. This designation honors members’ exceptional contributions to the EMS profession and their commitment to advancing EMS medicine.

Madison Nashu, MD, instructor of emergency medicine, was selected to represent the Department of Emergency Medicine on the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Faculty Advisory Council. The council provides a forum for representatives to bring new ideas and concerns from a broad range of faculty perspectives to the Dean’s Office.

James Nugent, MD, MPH, and Julia Rosenberg, MD, MHS, an instructor and assistant professor, respectively, in the Department of Pediatrics, have been elected to membership in the Council of the Society for Pediatric Research. The society’s mission is to cultivate a diverse network of child health researchers through collaboration, community, mentorship, and advocacy.

Basmah Safdar, MD, director of Women’s Health Research at Yale (WHRY), discussed WHRY's and Yale’s leadership in the field of women’s health at the recent HLTH USA conference. The session included the announcement of $60 million in new funding for research into women’s health ventures by the Women’s Health Fund. Safdar, who is also Norma Weinberg Spungen and Joan Lebson Bildner Professor of Women's Health Research, is a founding member of the advisory board for the Women’s Health Fund.
