Biography

Willington Amutuhaire is board certified in internal medicine and currently a cardiology fellow at Yale. He completed internal medicine residency at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

He obtained his medical degree from Makerere University School of Medicine on merit-based government scholarship for the best science students in Uganda and was subsequently awarded a commonwealth Scholarship by United Kingdom government to undertake a masters degree in public health at London school of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London (UK)

Prior to coming to United States, he spent 8 years after medical school implementing health systems strengthening programs in difficult-to-reach areas in Uganda focusing on HIV and non-communicable diseases. His research has been on understanding the cardiometabolic risk and prevention of cardiovascular diseases among populations living with HIV and has published in peer reviewed journals including journal of human hypertension, Frontiers in cardiovascular medicine, BMC, AIDS research and therapy. He is interested in global health and reciprocal (north-south) innovation approaches aimed at improving the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in resource limited countries.

He is a proud former senator (lord councilor) in Kampala Capital City Council, the Uganda’s Capital City parliament where he championed improving air quality in Kampala city and received International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) award by US department of State.

Outside work, he spends time with his family, babysitting his young son.
