Genetics Seminar Series: "Renewal and plasticity in oral and gastrointestinal epithelia"
A central challenge facing medicine today is the development of strategies for organ regeneration and repair, and an important underpinning of regenerative medicine is an understanding of the m mechanisms by which mammals naturally use stem cells to renew and heal tissues. I will present data regarding renewal and plasticity based on our recent work on stem cells in the mouth and the gastrointestinal tract as examples of organs that undergo constant renewal.
