Flu Vaccine Clinic at YSM on Oct. 17

October 07, 2024

Fu vaccination is required for all Yale School of Medicine (YSM) faculty and staff working in patient-facing and human research subject-facing positions, including per diem staff. A vaccination clinic will be held in the Harkness lounge/ballroom on the YSM campus on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Both flu and COVID vaccine will be available.

For more information, see the message below, which was sent to the YSM community on Sept. 19.

Dear Colleagues:

In a recent email to the university community, Chief Campus Health Officer Madeline Wilson, MD, stressed the importance of getting an annual influenza (flu) vaccine, both to lessen your risk of contracting flu and to reduce the chance of serious complications if infection does occur. The flu vaccine is especially important for those of us who work in health care, as it significantly reduces the risk of transmission to patients and each other.

To help keep our care environment as safe as possible, we are once again requiring flu vaccination for all Yale School of Medicine (YSM) faculty and staff working in patient-facing and human research subject-facing positions, including per diem staff.

The deadline to receive and register your flu vaccine is Dec. 1, 2024. Exceptions to this requirement will be granted only for evidence-based medical contraindications and religious reasons. To request exemption from the vaccine requirement, you must log into Health On Track, go to Contact Us, and request an exemption no later than Dec. 1, 2024. If you applied for and received a permanent medical exemption in the past, it will be carried forward into Health On Track. If you received a religious exemption, you will need to apply again through Health On Track as described above.

Individuals who have not received their flu vaccine or requested an exemption by the Dec. 1 deadline may be subject to progressive discipline. Note that the CDC has determined that people with egg allergies can safely receive any flu vaccine.

Schedule a Free Flu Vaccine

You can schedule your free flu vaccine using Yale’s Flu and COVID Vaccine Scheduler. Multiple dates and locations across campus are available. If you need assistance, please call 203- 432-8797.

Vaccination clinics will be held in the Harkness lounge/ballroom on the YSM campus on Sept. 25 (flu only) and Oct. 17 (flu/COVID), from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

  • Getting your flu vaccine through the Yale Flu and COVID Vaccine Program ensures that your vaccination will be automatically documented within Health On Track, Yale’s internal reporting for flu monitoring across the university.
  • This year for the first time, if you receive your flu vaccine at one of the YNHH flu clinics and consent to share your information, that will also satisfy your flu requirement for the university.
  • If you choose to receive this year’s flu vaccine elsewhere (e.g., retail pharmacy), you must log into Health On Track and provide documentation of your flu vaccination by Dec. 1, 2024 to comply with the requirement.

Free COVID Vaccine Available Too

With the likelihood of a fall/winter surge of COVID cases and with the emergence of new variants, members of the university community also are advised to get updated COVID vaccines this fall. The Yale Flu and COVID Vaccine Program is again offering a free COVID vaccine to Yale faculty, staff, students, and Yale Health members once vaccine is available.

- Flu and COVID vaccine may be administered together—select one of the COVID and flu options in the scheduler.

- Information for Yale Health members and their families was sent in a separate message.

Thank you for your commitment to the health and safety of our community.

Sincerely,
