Clinical Care

Overview

Eric K. Holder, MD, is a physiatrist (a doctor who practices physical medicine and rehabilitation). He focuses on treating problems with the muscles, joints and nerves without surgery.

Dr. Holder specializes in interventional spine and musculoskeletal care, including sports injuries. He takes a conservative care approach whenever possible. With each new patient, his strategy is to listen closely to the patient’s story in order to make a precise diagnosis. He then partners with his patients to formulate a comprehensive individualized care plan based on the patient’s condition, preferences and goals. To do this, he may consult with providers of rheumatologic, neurologic and surgical treatments.

“To me, it is very important to spend enough time with each patient so that he or she leaves every encounter with an understanding of the next step in their care plan,” he says.

Dr. Holder uses specialized physical therapy programs, and when indicated, minimally invasive procedures, such as ultrasound- or fluoroscopy-guided injections to assist in restoration of function and to improve quality of life.

As a physiatrist, Dr. Holder takes “a holistic functional approach” when evaluating a problem, as opposed to only thinking about one particular body part or injury. He looks to address not only current concerns, but also makes sure care plans are designed to promote long-term well-being. “I am passionate about working with my patients to promote active, productive and healthy lifestyles,” he says.
