Faculty Profile: Margaret L. Furman, MD, MPH

Yale Cardiovascular Medicine is pleased to welcome Margaret L. Furman, MD, MPH, assistant professor of medicine (cardiology).

Originally from New Jersey, Furman spent 10 years as an attending cardiologist at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with Honors at Union College in Schenectady, New York. She went on to earn a Master’s in Public Health – Epidemiology and Biostatistics from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She obtained her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. She then went on to complete her internal medicine residency at Albert Einstein — Montefiore Medical Center and her fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Furman is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, echocardiology, nuclear cardiology, and vascular interpretation. Her focus and interests within cardiology include preventive cardiology, lipidology, women’s cardiac health, cardiac rehabilitation, and educating women and minorities about cardiovascular disease risk and prevention.


Furman is the recipient of the American Heart Association Go Red for Women 2015 Luminary of Heart. She was an active member of Mount Sinai’s Women’s Heart New York which provided minority outreach education and screening clinics in cardiovascular disease in addition to paring women with female cardiologists.

At Yale Cardiovascular Medicine, Furman looks forward to building a busy clinical practice, community outreach, and clinical research.

Furman enjoys spending time with her family and Dachshund “Jersey”, being active, playing tennis, and traveling.
