The End of Affirmative Action: What Does it Mean for Residency and Fellowship Programs?
In June 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down affirmative action in college admissions but the impact of this decision on postgraduate medical training remains unclear. Emerging data indicate that a diverse health care workforce improves patient outcomes, supporting recruitment of diverse residents and fellows. This panel will discuss the Supreme Court ruling, the impact on postgraduate medical training, and how we might build a diverse workforce in the current sociopolitical climate.
