Inclusion
Yale School of Medicine seeks to create an inclusive environment where there is a diversity of ideas and experiences, and a genuine commitment to improve continuously a sense of inclusion and belonging for every member of YSM.
Our inclusion strategies are as follows:
Strategy 1: Enhance YSM’s Ability to Measure and Enhance Inclusive Excellence
- Collect and track the data below, analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and develop high-level reports for YSM leadership.
- Contract with the AAMC to administer the Diversity Engagement Survey; and
- Utilize data to inform future actions at both the department and school level
- Encourage departments to appoint a vice chair or champion who are dedicated to inclusive excellence within their department
Strategy 2: Provide Workshops and Training to Facilitate Listening and Appreciation of the Diverse Experiences and Viewpoints Among our Community and Provide Tools to Enhance Interpersonal Communication
- Enhance and/or develop trainings for all members of the YSM community in the following areas:
- Leading across differences
- Crucial conversations/dialogues
- Unconscious bias
- Microaggressions
- Allyship and bystander training
