Biography
Pat Ryan-Krause is an Associate Professor of Nursing in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Specialty, where she has served since 1994. She teaches the two final year Pediatric Primary Care Seminar courses to pediatric and family nurse practitioner students in addition to guest lecturing and precepting many students in clinical practice. She serves on the Clinical Expert Panel of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) and the American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC) and is an active member of NAPNAP’s Global Health and Developmental and Behavioral Special Interest Groups.
She practiced continuously for 24 years at Children's Medical Group where she was the primary care provider for a large caseload of diverse patients. Her current clinical practice is at Yale New Haven Hospital where she also cares for a wide range of patients and families. Pat also serves as the nurse practitioner at the Pediatric Refugee Clinic at Yale Primary Care Center.
As a former special educator, Pat has combined her fascination with learning and development with her clinical interests and incorporates assessment and management of learning and attention issues into her practice both at Yale New Haven Hospital and part time at Children’s Medical Group.
For the last 12 years Pat has been very involved with global health activities at YSN and in collaboration with the School of Public Health and the School of Medicine. Since 2008, she was the Interim Director of the Center for International Nursing Scholarship and Education and is now clinical coordinator of student projects abroad. Since 2008 she has traveled with masters and doctoral students to both Nicaragua and Dominican Republic where she has collaborated with community health workers to establish educational and capacity-building programs. She launched the global health concentration at YSN in 2014 to give interested students opportunities to gain additional knowledge and experience with global populations.
She has received numerous awards for her teaching and for clinical practice.
