Dr. Kevin Sheth has won the Derek Denny-Brown Young Neurological Scholar Award, the most prestigious award given by the American Neurological Association (ANA). He will be presented with the award at the annual meeting of the ANA held Oct. 15-17 in San Diego.
The Derek Denny-Brown Award recognizes neurologists and neuroscientists in their early to mid-careers, honoring “those who have made outstanding basic and clinical scientific advances toward the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of neurological diseases … in the first 10 years of their career at the assistant/associate faculty level.”
Sheth’s research focuses on the identification and translation of new therapies for patients with acute neurological injury such as stroke, brain hemorrhage, and trauma. Sheth and his team look specifically at inflammation and swelling responses to acute central nervous system injury. They are currently leading several national clinical trials on novel therapies that would affect this type of brain swelling.
Since 2013, Sheth has served as the founding chief of the Division of Neurocritical Care and Emergency Neurology and chief of clinical research for the Department of Neurology at the Yale School of Medicine, where he is also an associate professor of neurobiology and neurosurgery.
