- 00:00As creative leaders in medicine and science,
- 00:03we constantly push boundaries to advance
- 00:05medicine for the benefit of humanity.
- 00:07In doing so, it is also our moral
- 00:10imperative to pursue Health Equity no
- 00:11matter the cause of the disparities
- 00:13that negatively impact the health
- 00:16of many populations. Here at
- 00:17Yale School of Medicine,
- 00:19we work every day to be a leader in
- 00:22Health Equity and Health Equity research.
- 00:23There is a science to understanding
- 00:25how to make sure everyone gets to
- 00:28achieve their greatest potential.
- 00:30We're thinking not just about
- 00:32the methods, but also about the
- 00:34impact. I'm profoundly
- 00:35excited to be at at Yale,
- 00:37within the office of Health Equity
- 00:38Research, where we've thought.
- 00:40Concretely, about how best to engage,
- 00:43how best to train some of the brightest
- 00:46minds in our community to work in
- 00:49service of our collective goals of
- 00:51trying to improve the health and
- 00:53well-being of people.
- 00:55You know, the things that
- 00:57shape our health geography,
- 00:58where we live, yes, how we identify,
- 01:01but also what access we have in
- 01:04terms of resources, finances,
- 01:06educational opportunity.
- 01:06Almost everything you get exposed
- 01:08to is a contributor to your ultimate
- 01:11health. Really special and unique
- 01:13about Yale is the collaboration
- 01:16across the School of Medicine
- 01:18with disciplines that really go
- 01:20from general internal medicine,
- 01:22addiction, genetics, cell biology,
- 01:24all the way through the law school.
- 01:29Scholars within History,
- 01:30Scholars within Ethics.
- 01:31We've been fortunate to launch
- 01:33several signature initiatives to
- 01:35advance HealthEquity research. We
- 01:37have the Community Research
- 01:38Fellowship program.
- 01:39We've launched the Community
- 01:41HealthEquity Accelerator.
- 01:42We have the Community
- 01:43Research Innovation Summit.
- 01:44We bring together experts,
- 01:46not just locally but
- 01:47regionally around the country.
- 01:48We have policymakers as
- 01:50partners who are eager,
- 01:51who trust the science that comes
- 01:53out of Yale School of Medicine.
- 01:55So the work we do will drive policy.
- 01:58It will change practice.
- 01:59It will make a
- 02:01difference. You know,
- 02:02in the United States,
- 02:03we've incarcerated more than
- 02:04almost any country in the world.
- 02:07Individuals that are incarcerated,
- 02:08especially upon release,
- 02:09have it disproportionately
- 02:10high rates of morbidity.
- 02:12Going to the hospital,
- 02:14presenting the emergency department,
- 02:15or even deaths from largely
- 02:17preventable health conditions,
- 02:18people die.
- 02:20In our country, every single day, because
- 02:23of health disparities, that is.
- 02:27Unacceptable. A gift for
- 02:30HealthEquity research. Will go
- 02:32so incredibly far in making
- 02:35deep and sustained change.
- 02:37It's about implementation
- 02:39and action and impact. Learn
- 02:42how your gift can help create
